The EN 16482 standard has recently been updated and published in a new and improved 2024 edition.
- As cast iron bar specialists we are of course very proud to have contributed to this updating and improving process of the EN 16482 standard. The updated standard matches the needs and expectations of customers today. New material grades have been added, of which two are directly equivalent to the most common American ductile iron material grades, explains Henrik Elmkvist, Commercial Director at TASSO.
The most important updates of the EN 16482:2024 standardThe EN 16482 standard from 2024 contains several significant improvements, which makes the standard even more robust and useful for producers and end-users. The most important updates are:
1. Improved material quality requirements: Two tables in Annex B give a compact overview of raw bar allowance, ovality and swell allowance, as well as updated recommended minimum machining allowance.
2. Improved test documentation: Minimum impact energy values for certain material grades are now listed directly in the standard. Description of ultrasonic inspection of cast iron bar as non-destructive test method is also added.
At TASSO, the new requirements in the EN 16482:2024 standard are already fully integrated in the production processes, so materials and products comply with the newly updated standard.
- The updated EN 16482 standard is a positive development for the cast iron business, and it will help us improve our production and make sure that we continuously deliver products that live up to customers’ expectations and needs, says Henrik Elmkvist.
